Are you a visionary data leader with deep expertise in artificial intelligence and a passion for environmental impact? Water Access Rwanda (WAR) is inviting applications for the high-level position of Data & AI Director.
Based in Kigali, this full-time director-ranking executive will report directly to the CEO. The role is designed for a strategic “player-coach” who can lead a lean team, drive the company’s AI adoption roadmap, and spearhead data intelligence for their expanding carbon impact monetization agenda.
Key Result Areas (KRAs)

Data Strategy & Intelligence: Design and execute a robust data strategy ensuring all company information is entirely accurate, secure, and actionable.

AI Integration & Innovation: Map out and execute the organization’s comprehensive AI adoption and automation roadmap.

Carbon Data & Impact Monetization: Take full ownership of the data infrastructure powering Water Access Rwanda’s high-stakes carbon credit programme.

Data Governance & Compliance: Set up ironclad data governance frameworks and provide ultimate strategic oversight over cybersecurity.

Team Leadership: Direct the internal data team and provide day-to-day strategic supervision to the IT Senior Officer.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is considered a strong advantage.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in data analytics, data engineering, or a strategic data leadership capacity.

Technical Skills: * Proven, hands-on experience with AI/ML tools and their practical implementation (shortlisted candidates will be required to show demos).

Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and leading Business Intelligence platforms (Power BI or Tableau).

Mindset: Highly comfortable acting as a player-coach within a lean, fast-moving team—possessing the capability to be hands-on while providing executive leadership.
Compensation & Benefits
Water Access Rwanda offers a highly competitive and transparent executive compensation package:

Base Salary: RWF 1,030,136 monthly gross

Transport Allowance: RWF 578,571 monthly gross

Retention Pay: RWF 300,000 monthly (applicable after probation, features a 3-year cliff)

Net Take-Home Pay: RWF 1,000,000 – RWF 1,300,000 / month
